Introduction

Welcome to Stereotypes and Short Stories, a WebQuest designed to enhance the literacy skills of a Year 9 English class by exploring various stereotypes and their implications. A stereotype can be defined as a simplistic and often inaccurate generalisation about a group that allows others to categorise them and treat them accordingly. While completing this WebQuest you will learn about the characteristics of many different stereotypes including racial, gender and religious as well as the ways in which these stereotypes are evident in today's society.

Afterwards, you will be required to use this knowledge to write a short story based on one stereotype of your choice. Writing this short story will give you the opportunity to get creative and further explore the type of stereotype you feel most passionately about. As unjust as it sounds, stereotypes will always exist in modern society... however every person has the choice to either promote or challenge them.

What will you do?
